Boating Closure

Due to low water levels, Boyd Lake is closed to boating for the rest of 2026. Hand-launched vessels - such as kayaks and paddleboards - and swimming are still allowed. See more information in the news release.

Fire Ban

Due to the current fire danger and dry conditions, a fire ban is in effect at the park. The ban is in effect until 11:59 p.m. September 8, 2026. PLEASE NOTE, county officials may choose to extend the ban after this time period expires. Any violation of the fire ban will result in a citation.

To help keep the area safe from wildfires, the following rules must be followed inside the park:

Banned

• Firewood campfires and firewood cooking fires at the park's grills/ fire pits;
• Charcoal, pellet, and wood stoves/grills;
• Smoking in the open is not allowed, including on trails, parks and open spaces;
• Combustible devices;
• Fireworks;
• Operating or using any device with an internal or external combustion engine without a spark arrest device properly installed and in effective order.

Allowed

• Gas or liquid fueled fires, including grills and camping stoves

Marina Closure

The Boyd Lake Marina is closed for the 2026 season. The current operating contract has ended and due to low water levels, a new concessionaire will not be selected. At this time, there is no estimated timeline for reopening. Updates will be provided on this website as more information becomes available. We appreciate your understanding and patience.

Why did CPW make the decision not to renew the contract?

• CPW has not renewed the contract with the Boyd Lake Marina concessionaire due to the failure to meet contract requirements, dilapidated and unsafe infrastructure, and a lapse in customer service expected by state park visitors.

Will public recreational opportunities at Boyd Lake be affected?

• No, not due to the marina closure. The lake opened normally Mar. 6, 2026, but the courtesy dock was not usable due to low lake levels and the inability to move it. Currently the lake is CLOSED to boating for the rest of 2026 due to low water levels. Hand-launched vessels (such as kayaks and paddleboards) and swimming are still allowed.   

Why wasn’t another concessionaire chosen?

• A new contract with a concessionaire would not be feasible due to the timing of this contract's expiration and the low water year.
• The marina needs major repairs for safety reasons and will need a full inspection before operation by CPW or another concessionaire. Those costs are unknown at this time, as the infrastructure is owned by the current concessionaire, not CPW.

When will the Marina be reopened?

• Park Management will evaluate next steps, which may include facility improvements or replacements and/or the identification of a new operator. A request for proposals will be issued this summer to determine when the marina can reopen.  At this point, we are hopeful that the marina will be back up and running in 2027.

How do people get refunds on the slip rentals?

• The concessionaire is responsible for refunds for slip rental and dry storage space. CPW does not own the slips/ dry storage space and does not collect rent for these services.
