Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) is committed to researching better ways to restore and improve wildlife habitat. Many CPW researchers, biologists and managers are actively engaged as wildlife habitat restoration and improvement requires a broad knowledge base. Restoring and improving terrestrial wildlife habitat is critical to ensuring that wildlife has access to the resources — forage, water, shelter — needed to sustain healthy populations. This requires understanding how habitat is being impacted and what methods are most effective in creating a landscape suitable for a variety of wildlife.​​​​​

Colorado is a resource and playground for all. Every contribution goes a long way to help protect our wildlife and natural spaces, to support our state parks and outdoor recreational opportunities, and to introduce new people to all the wonders of Colorado's great outdoors.​​

Starting August 1, 2026, you must complete a firearms safety course before purchasing or transferring a Specified Semiautomatic Firearm (SSF). An SSF is defined as a semiautomatic rifle or shotgun with a detachable magazine OR a gas-operated semiautomatic handgun with a detachable magazine. Per statute, the Department of Revenue (DOR) will provide a list of SSFs and will continually update this list as new firearms are developed by manufacturers.

This law only affects those who will purchase and transfer of SSFs after August 1, 2026. Those who are in possession of an SSF prior to August 1, 2026 are not affected by this new legislation.
