Surrounding Vega State Park’s high-mountain lake, four campgrounds in a beautiful meadow offer walk-in tent camping ,as well as hook-ups for RVs. Cabins are also available.

What’s available at Vega
The park’s 109 campsites range from pull-through sites with electric hook-ups to 10 walk-in tent sites in the Pioneer Campground, as well as ADA-accessible sites. All the sites have fire pits, picnic tables and pleasant views. Vega’s five cozy cabins are available year round and accommodate up to six people. A group camping area accommodates weddings and other gatherings. Vega can be busy, so for a quieter experience, plan to visit midweek.

Nestled in a lush grove of aspens in the Pioneer Campground, Vega’s five cabins offer the perfect backcountry escape. During winter months, the cabins offer easy access to snow-sledding hills, snowmobile trails on the Grand Mesa and ice fishing. Cabins include heat, a microwave and refrigerator.
Campsites
Whether you’re staying in a tent or cabin, a cozy evening by the campfire makes a perfect ending to a day on the lake. Ten campsites are accessible.
Vega is great year-round for birding, hiking among the changing aspen, fishing and cross-country skiing.

109 Campsites
A reservation is required to camp at Vega State Park, and it’s easy to make one. Reservations can be made for campsites and cabins online at cpwshop.com or by phone at 1-800-244-5613. Reservations can be made up to six months in advance of your arrival date. Visitors are required to display a vehicle pass and have a valid reservation.
Whether you’re camping in a tent, RV or cabin, Vega offers amenities to make your stay more comfortable. Amenities include:
Oak Point and Aspen Grove Campgrounds: There are water spigots to fill containers throughout Oak Point and Aspen Grove campgrounds, but not at each individual site. These campgrounds have no flushing toilets or showers, but those campers are welcome to use the camper services building.
Early Settlers Campground and the Camper Services building: Early Settlers is the only campground with hookups. The campers services building has flush toilets and showers and is located in the Early Settlers campground.
Conveniently located behind the Pioneer cabins, the Vega horse corrals are available for reservations by calling the park at 970-487-3407. There is a charge of $10 per head, per night. No water is available at the corrals; bring a bucket or a 100-foot-minimum hose to fill the stock tank, which is provided. All hay fed in Colorado State Parks or US Forest Service Land must be certified weed free.
When you camp at Vega State Park, check-in time is 1 p.m. on the day of arrival and check-out time is 12 p.m. (noon) on the day of departure. A reservation is necessary, and camping is allowed only in designated areas. The maximum stay is 14 days within a 28-day period. A maximum of six people, two motorized vehicles and only one camping unit is allowed per individual site. Parking on vegetation may result in a fine. Please do not tie anything, including hammocks, to the trees.
Pets are allowed at Vega State Park. All pets must be under control and on a maximum six-foot leash at all times, and not attached to any park signs, trees, shrubs or hydrants. Pets may not be left unattended, and pet owners must promptly clean up after their pets.
No campsites are available in the winter. See the Know Before You Go "Cabins" area below for more information on winter accommodations.
Water spigots are turned off annually Oct. 31 within the Oak Point and Aspen Grove Campgrounds.
Full water hookups, showers and flush toilet water are turned off Nov 15, pending weather, for the Early Settlers Campground and Camper Services building.

CABINS
The park’s five accessible rustic cabins offer the comforts of home. They are heated by propane stoves and equipped with electric lights, outlets, a small refrigerator and a microwave oven. Each cabin has a picnic table and fire grate outdoors, with easy accessibility and a paved parking lot. Direct access to the Grand Mesa for four-wheelers and snowmobiles is conveniently available from the cabin parking area.

The wood-paneled inside includes bunk beds, a table and chairs, a kitchenette and a window.
Cabins can accommodate up to six people. Check-in time is 2 p.m. and check-out time is noon. Visitors are responsible for bringing their own blankets and linens, cooking gear, and any supplemental lighting such as flashlights and lanterns (recommended). Vault toilets and water are centrally located. During summer months, coin-operated showers and flush toilets are available in the camper services building.
Pets are allowed in cabins 1, 2 and 5 with a $10/night fee.
Cabin reservations are available year-round. Five cabins are available in the winter season.
All cabin amenities remain the same in winter as they are in summer (see list above under Cabin Amenities), with the exception of the picnic table and grill. Please note: These items may be inaccessible if covered by snow, unless the tenant chooses to clear them off themselves.
