Pets are allowed in the campsites, picnic areas, and on paved roads. Pets are prohibited on all trails and in the backcountry.

Explore Trails

Mueller offers over 50 miles of trails with many opportunities to explore the beautiful foothills of the Rockies. Trails are accessible via foot, horseback or mountain bike. Trails vary from short, leisurely walks to challenging, full-day hikes.

​Bikers must stay on designated trails. All trails are Pikes Peak decomposed granite with loose gravel in spots. Expect moderate to steep sections on trails; no easy bike trails.

Pets are not allowed on trails.

Horses are not permitted on paved roads, in the campground or picnic areas. Mueller does not provide horses for rent.

All trails are open to snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.

Trail Facilities

Facilities

    Trailhead and parking areas are easily accessible from the main roads in the park. Park in designated areas only. Parking along the side of the roadway is prohibited. ​There will be no car access for the trailheads in the northern part of the park. These trails can be accessed by hiking the road from the camper services building or from lower trailheads.

    An ample horse-trailer parking and unloading area is located off of Wapiti Road and is identified on the trails map.​ ​Mueller offers space to park 10–15 horse trailers and 2 equestrian campsites.

    Featured Trails

    Nature Hikes

    The park offers three self-guided nature trails: The Children’s Dragonfly Trail at Dragonfly Pond; The Wapiti Trail at the Visitor Center; and the Northern Meadows Nature Trail that starts at Grouse Mountain Trailhead. Naturalist-led hikes and activities are offered year-round.

      Know Before You Go

      Mueller is home to elk, black bear, mountain lions, mule deer and plenty of birds. Please watch wildlife from a safe distance.

      Crossing Paths with Wildlife

      Mueller is in the heart of black bear country. Black bears are often seen in the park during the spring, summer and fall. Find out what to do if you cross paths with a bear on a trail.

      Dogs

      Dogs must be kept on a six-foot or shorter hand held leash. Please keep Mueller beautiful and pick up after your dog. Service dogs are permitted on trails, but please let park staff know ahead of time if you will be bringing a service dog.
