Pikes Peak OUT! (formerly known asTEN): Exploring Ecosystems of the Pkes Peak Region
Tuesday, June 18: 6/18/2024 : 8:00 AM - 6/21/2024 : 1:00 PM
Pikes Peak OUT! (Outdoor Understanding for Teachers!) formerly known as T.E.N. is a 4-day interdisciplinary
conservation & environmental education course for PreK-12 teachers. This year’s class, Exploring Ecosystems of the Pikes Peak Region, will take teachers from prairies to the mountains.
Our sites this year include the Paint Mines, Fountain Creek Nature Center, and Mueller State Park. We will learn
about the ecosystems of the places and the flora and fauna found there. See the agenda (opposite side) for
sample highlights. We will offer optional overnight tent camping at Mueller on the 20th. NOTE: Camping is
optional, but participants must stay until the end of the presentations on the 20th and return at 8 am on the 21st.
The majority of the class will take place outdoors. If you DO NOT like being in the outdoors in June, then this class is not for you. It can be hot, muggy, buggy, cold, wet and raining, all in the same day. The OUT! team makes every effort to make this class enjoyable, but we cannot control the weather. Please dress for Colorado’s temperamental weather conditions and enjoy the class! This year’s class will involve light hiking and optional camping. Please no kids or pets allowed in the class.
The class cost is $100. If you register by May 15th, the early registration fee is $75. The deadline to register is June
5th. You may also take the class for 2 credits through Colorado School of Mines for an additional $105 (paid to
CSM the first day of the class). CDE credit is also available. The class is limited to the first 25 teachers.
