Many exciting and beautiful areas in Colorado can be explored on an off-highway vehicle. There are motorcycle, ATV and four-wheel drive trails and roads on the plains, in the foothills and high mountain passes to challenge recreationists of all abilities.

Before heading out, owners of vehicles used for off-highway recreation need to be aware of a Colorado law administered by Colorado Parks and Wildlife. It requires the registration of all terrain vehicles (ATVs), unlicensed motorcycles (dirt bikes), unlicensed four-wheel drives and dune buggies operated on public lands. This law is the basis of the Colorado Off-Highway Vehicle Program, and the registration fees fund the program.
