​​​Outdoor education signWith 2,303 acres of important wildlife habitat, local history and spectacular natural scenery, the park is a natural outdoor classroom.

Our environmental programs are created with state standards in mind and are presented by park staff and our trained volunteer naturalists.

Guided Educational Programs offered for School Groups Wednesday-Friday.

  • Cycles Go Round: K-3rd grades/Length 2 ½ hours. Learn about how nature is constantly reusing and recycling. 

  • Home Sweet Habitat: 3rd-6th grades/Length 2 ½ hours. Learn about who calls Castlewood home. 

  • Webs of Life: 3rd-6th grades/Length 2 ½ hours. Discover the four different ecosystems in Castlewood Canyon.

  • Cherokee Trail: 3rd-6th grades/Length 2 ½ hours. Learn the local history as you become part of a wagon train and travel the old Cherokee Trail.

  • Rock -n- Roll: 3rd-8th grades/Length 2 ½ hours. Become a rock detective and search for the three types of rocks in Castlewood Canyon. 

  • Skins & Skulls: All ages/Length 45 minutes. Meet the wild animals of Castlewood Canyon up close!

  • Reservations are required for all guided and self guided trips.

  • Guided School Program Limit: One bus load of students per day (approximately 60 students).​ See the current teacher's brochure​ for more program information.

​Wonders Program

​Friends of Castlewood Canyon provides funding for bus transportation of up to $300/school/year for schools in which >70% of the kids are on free/reduced breakfast/lunch programs.  If your school qualifies for the Wonders Program​, plea​se complete the application for consideration.
