Mancos is home to Coyotes, Red Foxes, and Gray Foxes. All have been seen in the park, mostly at dawn and dusk. Mancos’s wild canines have never been involved in a conflict with people or pets. However, both coyotes and foxes are territorial, and may not like it when a domestic dog is near.
Therefore, try to remember the following guidelines:
Keep ALL pets on a leash while walking them. This isn’t just advice, it’s a law.
If a coyote approaches you or your pet, you should throw rocks, sticks, or anything else to frighten it away.
Use a loud, authoritative voice to frighten the animal.
Never feed a coyote, no matter how docile it appears.
